Every year we tend make these promises that we never follow through with. I’ve seen it every year — let me guess ... you've already given up on the resolution you made?
Two quick suggestions regarding New Year’s resolutions – “don’t” and “never” put that much pressure on yourself.
You’re only setting yourself up for more disappointing results.
If you've already given up on your resolution to get fit, there are five ways you can get back on track ...
-
Treat yourself.
Buy yourself new sneakers with the mindset that “I’m going to show my face at the gym and show off these new kicks.” Or buy a new piece of gear — goggles if you swim, a new mat if you like yoga — that will get you itching to use it. The trick here is to just get you started.
-
Hire a professional trainer.
People have enough trouble just really getting out the door let alone trying to design a workout routine. It can be difficult to establish a routine when you don’t have the knowledge of what to do or how hard to push. Ultimately this will help you as well and significantly prevent injuries.
-
Do something you’re familiar with.
If you’re a swimmer, then make your first day a pool workout or if you’ve done yoga before, then do that. Familiarity tends to go hand-in-hand with confidence. The more comfortable you become with your routine, the more it will become part of your everyday life. That’s what you should be aiming for now.
-
Write down exactly what you want to accomplish.
Do yourself a favor and write down your workout beforehand. This will be a guide as to what you need to do and will help build your future workouts. If you can be religious with this one then you are on your way.
-
Have fun!!!
This one is my favorite, having fun and really trying to embrace everything that goes into exercising. You should have fun starting a new exercise routine.
Good luck!
